US Weekly

my closest friends know, i have always had an internal battle about reading US Weekly. it makes me feel dirty and voyeuristic. on the other hand, i also adore the cheese-factor, the fashion scouting and, who are we kidding, i love juicy gossip. the gossip is at the expense of someone that i do not know, will never know and should not be public. so... to cope with this guilt, my philosophy is - just because i read it and enjoy the photos does not mean that i should repeat it and discuss these people's lives as if i am a part of it. this is my sort of ying to its yang. i just keep it secret and read it in the bathroom or on a saturday morning as though it's my version of "the paper" or Playboy (for the articles, of course).

in all the glory of this guilty pleasure, there are little gem's like this (below). i just cringe at how dirty these people are going to feel in the months to come, feel really gross for actively participating in the filth of it ...

and then i laugh hysterically and post it on this blog. let's face it, i don't think i speak for myself when i say that as much as we try to be good people that don't participate in gossip and perpetuate the "celebrity" aspect of today's media, we kind of love it. even thrive on it. whether in secret shame (yeop, that's me) or blatantly in the open.

IN CONCLUSION: in the wise words of Cher in the 1995 classic Clueless:
" Until mankind is peaceful enough not to have violence on the news, there's no point in taking it out of shows that need it for entertainment value."
