I managed to squeeze in some op shopping this week. I've not been for ages, and it was one of those times when I thought I was certainly not going to find anything. But I did party people! I did!
It's been a long time between op shop utopia, but I finally struck it this week. What a way to buoy me!
I even found someone else's doll's bed in their hard rubbish. Hellz yeah. When Lexi got her groove back, this is what this is all about.
Hello friends. My name is Lexi and I'm a devoted op shopper.

Final Frocktober Fun Fest: Day 30 + 31
Top - Day 30 - My MIL's frock, I call 'Carnivale'. I love this frock. It's a riot of colour.
Bottom - Day 31 - Vintage frock found on the weekend, my Mum's belt. I did have heels on but they killed me. Children are my own. And clearly not into pulling Halloween faces. This is shortly after we trick or treated at a neighbours house, he didn't have any lollies, so he gave the kids money. I told the kids to give the money back, they wouldn't, so I took the money back. Then Tiny cried because - well it turns out she'd brought some of her own pocket money in her bag (unbeknownst to me), and I'd just handed it all over to the neighbour. All I can say is he better buy something pink with that hard earned cash of Tiny's since he didn't 'fess up when I was on his doorstep.
If you still want to sponsor me, you can. Not that I'm pressuring you, but it's for a good cause. Protect our ovaries!

Day 28 of Frocktober: Heading To Woodstock
I'm starting to wrap up Frocktober. I'm a little bit too excited to get back into my jeans. Hold onto your skirts ladies - still 3 glorious days of frocks to go. Plus my sister's birthday dinner tonight. What will I wear?
Before I decided to do Frocktober, I went on a wee shop to update my wardrobe. I bought new jeans, and some new floaty pant things, and haven't been able to wear them. Every time I see them in my wardrobe, a small part of me dies. Which is good, because then without those bits of me, I will be able to fit back into them.
I'll catch up with my frocking posts this weekend. Promise.

Day 25 of Frocktober: Up, Up and Away
So there I was just floating around at lunch time, up in the sky, up with the birds.
Vintage dress is my sister's which I am moving to Mexico so I never have to return it, oh I love it so! Vintage scarf as belt. Vintage enamel brooch and clip-on earrings. BTW - Clip-on earrings really hurt. Hair styled by the wind.
Day 24 of Frocktober: Tequila Sunrise
Only 7 days left of Frocktober and I have some crackers ready for the week ahead.
This little baby is an unworn frock I salvaged from a market. Never been worn. Clearly never been washed because it ran like Rob de Castella. Check out the collar on this. WHOA!
Today I was tidying up Tiny's bedroom, which is no mean feat. Man that girl loves to create havoc. And in my time travels, I discovered the Doctor's wallet that he has been searching high and low for. I walked out to the living room and announced my discovery. He was excited, and then sad that all his money had been embezzled by his little sister. He got so teary. Poor little sausage. He marched out and asked Tiny Skase if she had stolen his money. She nodded her head. What a minx! Then realised that she shouldn't have admitted to this fraudulent behaviour and shook her head wildly. Cheeky little sausage.

Day 23 of Frocktober: The Ham & The Minx
I had a wonderful afternoon at Calico + Ivy, listening to Kelly Doust of The Crafty Minx fame speak about her new book.
Kelly is an amazing, immaculate, beautiful and inspiring creature with genuine verve for her craft - vintage clothing. She lives and breathes it, and is a joy to listen to, imparting her knowledge of new to her frocks, and how to fix them, give them a make-over, or give them new life.
Definitely, 100% check out her new book Minxy Vintage - available at Calico + Ivy, BTW.

Frocking Fatigue: Day 21
I've hit a bit of frock fatigue, and the inspiration is flagging.
However, one of my ace friends sent me the below dress. Vintage Carla Zampatti. Um, yes, hello! YES PLEASE! (this was day 13 - we're back tracking peeps!). Big thanks to her - this is Matt's favourite frock of all time, that colour is aye carumba HOT!
I promise I'll think of something new to blog about soon. Promise. Only 10 days left of frock talk. Phew!

Day 20 of Frocktober
Vintage blue with metallic stripe. Silk scarf from here. Tan sandals.
Are you well? What's news with you?
Clearly I have nothing to write about except Frocktober. It's all-consuming.
However, I do have some other non frock related posts coming up. I frocking promise!

Day 19 of Frocktober: *GULP*
Holy guacamole girls. Today I dragged out from the archives one of my all-time favourite vintage dresses. One I snaffled from Bondi markets about 76 years ago. I LOVE this dress. Alas, if I want longevity in the dress I either need to:
a) lose weight
b) lose 2 ribs
c) put an elastic band in the dress
The last couple of days I've given Betty Draper a run for her money, honey. Yesterday's dress was a neon vintage number (which I will post, just don't have the photo right now), very 60s. Today is harking back to the 50s. I think?!
Frocktober has not only helped me raise a tidy sum of money for ovarian cancer research, but it's also made me think about how I dress.
I've become accustomed to wearing jeans. And jeans. And more jeans. All. The. Time. I haven't even touched those denim delights in 19 days. I looked at them a little forlornly on the weekend, but truth be told - I am loving having an excuse to frock up, every single day. Which is very nice if you can move in said frock. Today. Yeah, not so much movement going on. I've really filled that little sucker out, and not in a good way.
There's a lesson there: if you don't want indentations on your torso from where your dress is waaaay too tight, don't wear it. A good warning would be when you have to ask your husband to zip you into it.
Tomorrow = smock.
Please note, I had to climb through dirt, shrubs and cactus for these photos. And then I flipped out and thought there *might* be a snake in my midst. Vanity Fair - you reading this?

Day 12 of Frocktober
Into Day 12 and I've hit my target - I'm so stoked - thanks to everyone who has sponsored me - you've helped make a great donation to Ovarian Cancer research.
Day 12 is called "Jocelyne Wildenstein without the scalpel". Vintage dress, hoop earrings, ballet flats, tights, and bad pose. If this pose ain't worth sponsoring, what is?

Frocktober (Retrospective - Day 10)
People have asked about my frocks, particularly people at work, while I was on leave. Well this post is for them, as photographed by the Doctor, this is Frocktober Day 10. My Mum's vintage dress, vintage belt, scarf given to me for my 30th, silly pose my own.

Spring Cleaning
After a day out discovering (more on that tomorrow), I got all my cups and saucers out of the cupboards, washed them and rearranged them. It took me longer than anticipated, and half way through I regretted starting this exercise. Nevertheless, I kicked on, and am lying on the couch checking out the new set up.
I must admit, it was quite nice washing such pretty pieces. Each of them different, with a story all of their own. I love my pre-loved pieces, it's a shame I don't get to use them and admire them more often.
I'm beginning to think eating from a really beautiful plate is far more of an experience than eating from a plain white dinner plate. What say you?

Vintage beauty: The Freya 'Loretta'
Although bold prints and vivid colours are big news this summer, the 'Loretta' bra from Freya's Spring/Summer 2011 collection offers a great alternative to summer brights. The 'Loretta' takes on a much more girly trend of subdued pastel hues and floral and paisley patterning, giving off an air of lady-like glamour and an elegance that is sure to capture any girl's heart...
The 'Loretta' is a gorgeous vintage blue colour, complimented by delicate flower-embroidered cream mesh panels. The blue of the cups is nicely set off by pale pink and green floral accents, whilst the paisley print gives the bra a very vintage feel. The bra also features little blue bows on the straps and the hanging gem charm at the centre gives the bra a more glamorous feel!
Aside from the obvious visual beauty of this bra, Freya never compromises on fit. The 'Loretta' is a full cup, underwired plunge - ideal for bigger busted girls who want good coverage, as well as a bra that looks good! The band is firm without being uncomfortable and the cups give great shape and support.
I found the fit and shape of this bra similar to the Freya 'Arabella' (Click here for my review). The main difference between the 'Loretta' and 'Arabella' is that the 'Loretta' has the advantage of being made from a softer and silkier fabric, which adds to its comfort and wearability.
(Freya 'Loretta' bra, £30)
The best thing about the 'Loretta' is its size-inclusivity - boasting 28-38 bands and cup sizes from a B right up to an H! To complete the set, you can pick either shorts (£12.50), thong (£14.50) or briefs (£15.50), which boast matching lace and paisley patterning.
The Freya 'Loretta' is a true 'must-have' for this summer and would be perfect under a floaty tea dress. Additionally, the 'Loretta' will be the perfect transitional lingerie piece to lead you into fall's more muted tones. This bra is so beautifully designed that it seems almost a shame to cover it up! If you're looking for summer romance, the 'Loretta' is sure to set hearts a-fluttering!

Style file: The curvy girl's guide to a night out
Your night out is planned and all of your friends have confirmed, but the big question remains..what to wear?
Every girl has experienced that ‘I have nothing to wear’ moment prior to a big night out and for the curvy girls out there, there are just so many things to think about aside from whether you can walk in your new sky-scraper heels! Dressing curves is never an easy task – the balance must be addressed between showing off your assets and looking like you’ve tried too hard or have dressed to get the wrong kid of attention!
Another issue is finding clothes that accommodate for curves and a bigger bust. Going up a size to give enough room to your bust can be disastrous, resulting in too much material around the waist, or clothes that just ‘hang’ off your frame. No-one wants to get lost in too much fabric, but not everyone has the confidence to pour themselves into a fitted dress…
The solution to dressing curves is firstly to work out the kind of occasion that you are dressing for and secondly, to decide which areas of your body you want to highlight or conceal. Although there are specialist fashion stores (like Pepperberry) that cater for curves, I want to show girls that they can pick up curve-friendly clothes on the cheap!
LOOK 1: Trendy but understated
(Necklace, top and black skinny jeans from Topshop. Studded heeled boots from Love label.)
Skinny jeans are a great night-out alternative to a dress. They can be worn to more casual events, dinner with friends or the cocktail bar.
Black skinny jeans are very slimming and flattering to curves and also elongate your frame.
Wrap-over tops or ‘V’-shaped plunging necklines draw attention to your bust, whilst not revealing too much flesh.
Gold accents and embellishment add a little bit of glitz for the evening. Whoever said you can’t stand out in a pair of black jeans?
LOOK 2: Flirty summer prom dress
(Dress, belt and heels – all Primark)
With the onset of summer, what better way to celebrate, than with a
pretty prom-style dress?
This dress from Primark is perfect for curvy girls, due to the fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline, which flatter a bigger bust. The A-line skirt and cinched-in waist give the impression of an hour-glass figure, whilst skimming over the stomach and thighs.
Nude heels finish off the outfit by elongating the legs.
(Tunic dress and heels from Primark. Leggings – H&M)
This rust-coloured tunic dress is very girly and great for an evening out with the girls. The bust is roomy and the buttons can be undone to reveal a stretchy under-slip.
The plaited belt adds shape to the dress and draws attention to your waist. Leggings keep the look casual, but the embellished heels add a bit of nighttime glamour!
LOOK 4: Elegant in summer brights
(Dress, belt and heels from Dorothy Perkins. Necklace – Primark.)
Take on the summer brights trend with a vibrant purple dress like this one from Dorothy Perkins! The dress is made from a stretchy material and will accommodate for larger busts.
The fabric falls from under the bust and skims your curves. The accompanying belt can also be worn under the bust, enhancing your chest whilst giving you a cinched-in shape!
LOOK 5: Daring panelling
(Bodycon ‘Emma’ dress from Motel)
For the more daring of curvy girls, body-con can be a knockout way to show off curves and an hourglass figure!
This dress by Motel is very glam and perfect for a night out on the tiles. Look out for strategic panelling, which emphasises curvy figures. The panels of the Motel ‘Emma’ dress give the illusion of a smaller waist!
Don’t forget to wear seam-free underwear and a supportive strapless bra. Here, I am wearing the Freya ‘Deco’ strapless bra in black.
LOOK 6: The little black dress
(Dress by Geitzy London – found in a vintage shop. Heels from Dorothy Perkins)
Look out for the perfect little black dress that you can wear over and over again. This ‘Geitzy’ dress is made from very stretchy material and is slightly ruched at the bust. Stretchy dresses, like this one, are great as they cling to the curves that you want to show off (your bust), but aren’t too clingy on the rest of your body!
Team with a gorgeous pair of platform heels and rock those curves!
I hope you have enjoyed my going-out style file for curvy girls, which should hopefully provide some ‘food for thought’ and show that you don’t need to spend a lot to look good!
When shopping for clothes, remember to look out for clothes that streamline your figure, enhance your best points and skim over any parts of your body that you dislike. Don’t be afraid to customise – tacking, sewing and altering can really transform an outfit that is not ‘quite’ right when you buy it. Adding a waist belt to a dress is also a great way of giving shape to clothes that otherwise fit too loosely and do not pay enough homage to your gorgeous figure!
One last thing to keep in mind is underwear. The first step to looking great starts with the basics…and that means a well-fitting, supportive bra! I am wearing the Freya nude ‘Deco’ bra in looks 1-4 and the Freya black strapless ‘Deco’ in looks 5-6. These are the staple lingerie pieces that I reach for again and again. Due to being completely seamless and providing fantastic uplift and support, these bras are a must-have for all curvy girls!
Although fashion is very subjective, the most important thing is to dress for your figure, as ultimately, only you know what you feel most comfortable and confident in. A beautiful girl is a confident girl; so don’t forget to finish off any outfit with a dazzling smile!

Kitty xo
