In This Neck Of The Woods; GM for Lee

There has always been something of the bush ranger - a touch of the hirsute, itinerant Ned Kelly, the outsider walking gun-in-hand between the Eucalyptus and burning campfire - to Gareth Lauchlan Moody's fashion explorations. His influence on early Ksubi is legendary but it is really his absolute Australian-ness, seeping from every pore of his brilliant Chronicles of Never label that has really stamped a mark as a real design and conceptual talent. Clever then, that Lee, one of the world's great denim brands, opted to partner up with Moody to create a new line that celebrates the ethos of Chronicles and repositions that design thinking in a killer new range, GM for Lee. Here's the film to launch the collaboration, shot over several days in where else, but the Australian bush...

When 2D and Noodle met Chuck

Always a sucker for a good colab, Converse's iconic All Star brand might just have hit the nail on the head with their latest friendship, the Damon Albarn-led Gorillaz. Created from day one as an amalgam of music and design/animation, the Gorillaz have always leant heavily on the artistic skills of co-creator Jamie Hewlett, whose psuedo-fictional ensemble of 2D (lead vocalist, keyboard, and melodica), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar and drum machine), Noodle (guitar, keyboard, and occasional vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion) is quite simply a graphic masterpiece. The Gorillaz Chucks will be in store in March at Qubic Store Newmarket, Real Groovy - Amazon, Pat Menzies Auckland, Banks Shoe Lower Hutt, Inferno Whangarei and Void Dunedin. Perfect footwear for your Plastic Beach...

Happy (late) Monday!

We moved into a new home this weekend, and I'm in love!! This house has such a warm feeling to it, and from the second we moved in, has felt like "home".Not to mention my best friend/cousin lives right down the street. This neighborhood brings so many childhood memories. I'm kind of thinking thats why it feels home-y. Apartment living isn't to bad, but after a couple years it really starts to suck the energy out of you. Theres not a lot of space to move (or breathe) after a while. It's nice to get settled into a wide open, light, and airy space. Monday mornings are a little less dreary for the time being. I was extremely motivated yesterday, and I'm a firm believer that you get more accomplished in the day with a good outfit on, fresh make-up, and clean curled hair. So we had a quick little shoot outside our new backyard, one of the best mondays by far!

The Walkers

Each morning they embark on their own routines. In half-darkness they walk, sometimes together, usually on their own, lapping one another, stretching. Sweating.

There's one guy that is easily identified by his voracious appetite for red t-shirts. Each morning he walks - he's wearing a red t-shirt. Except for this week he's switched to blue. He runs one lap, then sets himself up in the cricket nets. Stretching. Pushing. Pulling. After a while he exits, runs a couple of extra laps, and heads off for the day.

Then there's Peter. Lovely white-haired Peter. He must be at least 80, he walks, we lap one another, we wave hello, we chat on every second lap. He stretches using the fence. He must have lived here forever. He's heading off for four months overseas.

A woman - whose age is difficult to determine turns up. Her ponytail swishes side to side as she runs, effortlessly around and around the oval. She stretches with another woman (who is older and curvier), they chat as they run, under the gum trees, around to the side where the sand flicks up into your sneakers.

Frank is there most mornings. He's a jovial man. We chat politics, war and walking.

Occasionally there are other walkers, but for the most part, it's the usual suspects. Occasionally an elderly woman will brave the slightly sodden grass, walk a few laps, but then she's out of there. Sometimes one of these women will wear a visor, or those sunglasses that flip up and down.

Some mornings see the beginnings of the sunrise. The most spectacular of which featured pale pink and lilac. Streaks of colour like a melted ice-cream. But the next day, markedly less memorable, golden clouds wafting in the sky. Yet it held on to its own beauty, though simplified from the previous.

Most mornings I walk to the dulcet tones of Ira Glass from This American Life. Perfectly timed, and I can get lost for an hour, listening to someone talk about someone else. Sometimes I carve things up and set my iPod to shuffle. Although it's risky with a mix of Playschool mixed with Rihanna mixed with Justine Clarke.

Without even thinking about it, I've become part of the community. Sometimes a silent community, or sometimes a community where a wave or a 'Good Morning' is enough to pass muster. It's comforting to share other people's lives daily. It's a really new sense of perspective, and one that I like.

Rag & Bone Cut Out Platform Heels

Oscars: Where The Heck Was Ryan Gosling?

For your viewing pleasure, you can stare longingly at this Ryan Gosling pancake since we seem to have missed him at the Oscars.

Even if he wasn't meant to be there, just wheel him out. Instant hit with the ladies.

Oscars: Brad + Angelina + Her Leg

I imagine if you shook Angelina's hand you might wind up with frostbite, such is my concept of her coldness, she's an Ice Queen to the max.

And yet, what is this? Doth she smile widely and so brightly? Has she dislocated her leg to show it off at all possible moments? Does she think she is Jake the Peg? Inso, Rolf will be so proud.

PS - Would someone mind sponsoring Brad Pitt's hair washing regime? It seems to be left wanting.

Oscars: Cameron Diaz

See the guy standing behind Cameron - but not looking at Cameron? He's not looking at her, because he didn't realise it was Cameron - after all, she's wearing a dress that covers more than a strip below her derriere.

HALLELULJAH!

It looks like Cameron has moved beyond those tacky belts she wears as skirts. And wearing over $800,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. diamonds, well she looks more like a million bucks.

Oscars: Viola Davis

Do I love this? Do I ever? That green sings to me. It sings big, bold love songs. It's seriously divine - and the frock itself - by Vera Wang no less - amazeballs. I love it. Paired back with the emerald earrings, that simple box clutch and Viola's bright smile. I'll hashtag this look right here: #winner.

Just as an after thought, Matt drew my attention to her breasts. They are a little squished. And that dress does look difficult to walk in. But the colour my friends, the colour had me at hello.

Oscars: Kristen Wiig

Damn girl, she looks beautiful in this J. Mendel frock. Seriously peeps, that colour is sublime, and I love the style. Super pretty - really dig the mash up with the dark mani and jewels by Neil Lane.

She's a funny, funny bird. Have you seen this?

Oscars: George Clooney Etc.

Any well-balanced Oscar round up should include men's style, right?

Well this is not balanced.

All the tuxedoes look pretty well the same to me, it's a bit boring to me, black-white-black-white-blah-blah-blah, so I'm not even going there.

And George Clooney? I never really got that thing. He's not hot to me. But this woman attached via velcro to him? She looks pretty pleased to be seen with him. So that's a good thing.

Oscars: Gwyneth Paltrow + THAT Cape

Gwyneth sporting a bit of Tom Ford here on the...

You know what stands out about this photo? That carpet isn't so much red, as it is burgundy. Or as though someone spilt a barrel of vino across it.

Nevertheless, let's look at Gwynnie.

She looks pretty darn amazing. Love her hair. Love the simplicity of this frock, and the cape? It makes her look like an incredibly glamorous superhero.

Oscars: Sullen Rose Byrne

Anna Wintour called. She wants her wig back.

I used to walk to work behind Rose Byrne. We both caught ferries into Circular Quay, then we walked down to Walsh Bay. Her to Sydney Theatre Company, me to Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Clearly we are kindred spirits, and that gives me the unique position of being able to offer up some advice.

You're totes hot. We get that.

But for goodness sake, crack a smile for once. You're starting to remind me of Kristen Stewart. Crankypants dot com will be dialling you up real soon.

PS - While I do like your dress, it's a little subdued and, well, dare I say it, boring. Dynasty black sequins and Anna Wintour's wig? Yowsers. As your friend, this isn't your best. But yes, yes you are still mega-beautiful.

Oscars Fashion: Jessica Chastain (Who Is That?)

I'll just come right out and say it. Faberge egg.

I have no idea who this bird is, but I really, whole-heartedly, hate that dress. Like with a big sack of horse manure on it. I. Do. Not. Like. It.

Black and gold reminds me of that homebrand brand, and I've never been a fan of those colours together unless of course it's wrapped around a chocolate bar - Chokito for instance.

This on the other hand. Bleurgh.

And what's with the beading around the hippie-astrum area? Me no likey. Looks like she's carrying saddle bags.

Shame on the stylist that did this to her. SHAME ON YOU!

NEXT!

EDIT: I just discovered this frock is Alexander McQueen. I can't believe I said I hated it. But I do hate it. I STILL HATE IT!

Vintage Dior: Natalie Portman

I don't know how I feel about Portman in this vintage Dior polka-dot frock. On one hand, I really want to like it. I love when celebs wear vintage couture on the red carpet. And it's a tricky way to ensure no one else looks quite like you do.

On the flip side, I don't love her hair. It looks like she couldn't be assed. Maybe the baby vommed on her, or she just came from picking up some nappies at the supermarket, but that hair - I just can't deem it red-carpet worthy.

Ok. I've resolved whether I like this.

I know. Phew huh?

Like it really matters what I think of Portman at the Oscars. Well it does folks, because what else am I meant to do? The washing up? GASP!

Frocks it is!

I love it.
I just can't love her hair.
It's understated and glamorous, but with the right do, she would have knocked it right outta the balk park.

i haven't been scanning in my stuff these days. not because i stopped doing the collages, but just because. so here's some stuff from who knows when... it's been a long time...

my scanner is not doing well so they're not as clean i would hope

Oscars 2012: Michelle Williams. Wow

Yes yoou may think I have an unhealthy obsession with Michelle Williams, but the girl can do no wrong!

Look at her up there (left) in the red tiered Louis Vuitton frock. Doesn't she look amaze? With the tiny detail of the bow brooch, the pink clutch.

And there she is (right) in the most spectacular Oscars frock of all-time, canary yellow Vera Wang against her alabaster skin.  Swoon! I remember this time when she walked the red carpet with Heath Ledger. That look they gave one another. Searing.

So just in case you needed it, here's proof Michelle Williams gets it right, over and over and over again.

Cuff it

Loving my thin Asos gold cuffs, ZARA pastel blue denim, and Essie Nice is Nice polish! It's been so rainy lately, today was somewhat bearable :/ crossing my fingers for good moving weather this weekend! xoxo

1 vest. 2 ways.

My cousin and I were out thrifting this am and came across an adorable tan leather mens vest. Had to have it! With some pretty basic outfits on, the vest gave each of our ensembles a bit of a pop as well as a reason to take some pictures.  Enjoy!
